The casualty ward of the Potchefstroom state hospital is under quarantine after a patient was admitted with a high fever yesterday.
North West Health Department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says it is still too early to determine what the diagnosis is.
He could not confirm any details regarding the patient in question at this stage, and says the patient's medical history is also still unknown.
National Health spokesperson Joe Maila denied that the case was related to a patient being admitted with the deadly Ebola virus.
Meanwhile, the Port Elizabeth harbour is on “high alert” for Ebola.
That's according to a report by the Nelson Mandela Bay Emergency Services Coordinating Committee to be presented to the Safety and Security Committee on Thursday.
National Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi told the National Assembly recently that Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth had been fully equipped and prepared to deal with any cases of Ebola.
