Eastern Cape premier Noxolo Kiviet has called for the improvement of conditions of employment in the mining sector - as the nation commemorates the Marikana massacre.

Kiviet says mine management should invest in the development of communities in which they mine.

She also urged union leaders in the sector to stop the worker on worker violence that is ongoing in the platinum belt and to collectively focus on bargaining for better working conditions.
