A 37-year-old man is expected to appear in the Umhlali Magistrates court in Durban on Monday for dealing and possession of heroin.
Spokesperson for police Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says the man had 16 kilograms of heroin in a "stash house" to the value of R4 million.
The Hawks received a tip-off about drugs from overseas that were allegedly being kept and distributed out from an unoccupied upmarket townhouse in Zambali.
Mhlongo says the suspect was renting another house nearby as the townhouse was purely used as a storage facility.
He says police arrived on scene with a search warrant on Friday and confronted the suspect.
According to police he put up a fight but was eventually detained.
