Businesses and individuals in Durban aren't likely to have to pay much to get their website addresses changed to include the city's name.
They'll have the option when Durban becomes the first South African city to obtain approval to use its name as a top-level Internet domain.
This means local websites will be able to do away with the suffix dot-co-dot-za, in favour of dot-durban.
International Internet authority, ICANN is expected to give the domain the go-ahead by September.
The ZA Domain Authority's Viga Mpisane says once that happens, businesses can apply for new "dot-durban" names through their Internet Service Providers.
"They are likely to cost anything from $20 upwards, we can's see it being too expensive but some might have more value for being search friendly for example hotels and businesses" Mpisane said.
