Dudu Myeni makes another court appearance

Former South African Airways board chairperson, Dudu Myeni, was back in court on Friday where she faces charges of fraud and corruption.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Myeni was in the dock in the Richards Bay magistrate’s court alongside co-accused, Trevor Mathenjwa, a director at Sondolo IT.

The pair face charges of corruption and fraud related to gratifications offered and received by the company BOSASA and its subsidiary.

The NPA said Myeni allegedly received security upgrades to her Richards Bay home property in the amount of R200 000.

Sindisiwe Seboka of the NPA’s Investigative Directorate, said she is also accused of benefiting from hotel accommodation and travel expenses from BOSASA, of more than R170 000.

The charges emanate from the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture which found that Myeni had facilitated corruption by influencing the former president to favour BOSASA.

The Commission’s report noted that the company had secured government tenders of R2.3 billion, paying out millions in bribes to politicians and officials according to whistle-blowers.

The case against Myeni and Mathenjwa was postponed to 9 February, 2024.
