Police in Mpumalanga have recovered drugs valued at R10m and arrested two people following a raid on a drug laboratory on a farm outside Marble Hall.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said drug manufacturing chemicals and equipment as well firearms and ammunition were seized during the operation on Tuesday night.
He said members of the Dennilton “Tekkie Squad” and Marble Hall police members followed up on information received from the community and raided the farm.
“Preliminary police investigations revealed that more suspects could have been on the farm and this necessitated a massive manhunt. Due to the vastness of the area and a bushy environment some of the suspects managed to evade arrest,” he said.
Brigadier Mojapelo said it was also established that one of the suspects who is on the run, bought the farm and “paid millions of rand in cash”.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers applauded the members for the breakthrough.
“This drug laboratory has the capacity to supply the entire country with illicit drugs and therefore the police actions from Dennilton and Marblehall made a gigantic leap by arresting the suspects in the act,” he said.
The suspects, aged 25 and 37, will appear in Marble Hall Magistrates’ Court soon.
