Drug smuggler busted during Covid-19 Level 5 roadblock - sentenced

A foreign national who was caught transporting drugs when the country was in the Covid Level 5 National Lockdown, has been sentenced in the Northern Cape.

Sixty-Seven-year-old Lewis John from Mozambique was stopped at a roadblock and could not produce a necessary permit.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Thebe says his car was subsequently searched and police found Tik with an estimated value of nearly R4 million.

Lewis was sentenced this week in the Calvinia Regional Court to 15 years in prison.
