Police say the driver who survived the devastating minibus crash near Msunduzi Valley faces 20 counts of culpable homicide. The taxi, which according to preliminary reports was overloaded and experienced brake failure, rolled down an embankment on Sunday killing 20 church congregants. The police's Thulani Zwane says the driver will appear in court as soon as he's discharged from hospital.
Transport's Kwanele Ncalane says they're working with other government bodies to ensure that the victims are buried with dignity. A mass funeral is set to take place this weekend in KwaXimba.
It is believed that at least 26 people were crammed into the 16-seat minibus taxi. Eighteen people died at the scene and another two soon afterwards at a nearby clinic.
Political parties and others have expressed shock at the crash.
