Dozens die in SA road accidents


Dozens of people died in accidents across the country over the past 24 hours.

ER24 reports that ten people were killed and 12 others injured when a bakkie and a taxi collided on the N-1 in Limpopo on Friday.

"ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find a taxi and bakkie well alight in the middle of the road. Car parts from both vehicles were spread acrodd the road. Members of the public had already began extinguishing the blaze," said spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"On assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered the bodies of ten patients, one of them was a young child. Two of the deceased were found trapped in the bakkie while the remaining eight were found trapped in the taxi and lying outside of the vehicle. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for these patients."

Meiring also said that three people were killed in another collission involving a taxi in Kwazulu Natal on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, six people, including a child, died in head-on collision on the R61 at the Shelly Beach off ramp.

Netcare 911 said paramedics and other emergency services arrived at the scene and found absolute carnage, accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles spread over a large area with some of the occupants still trapped in the wreckages.
