Former Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has been given a R200 000 fine or four years in prison for perjury.
Two of the four years have been suspended for five years.
The ANC Women's League president was sentenced in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
She was previously found guilty of perjury for lying under oath during a 2017 inquiry into the SASSA social grants debacle.
Dlamini told the court that she was in a position to pay the required 20% of the fine, namely R40 000, immediately to stay out of jail.
She was ordered by Johannesburg Magistrate's Court to pay the outstanding amount before the end of April.
