The Department of Defence and Military Veterans has once again squashed rumours that their will be blanket payments to military veterans.
Department spokesperson, Simpiwe Dlamini, says they are currently updating their national database and the process started last November and ends on Friday.
He says people that should be updating their details with the Department of Military Veterans are former liberation army veterans, former SADF members and members of former TVBC states.
Dlamini was however emphatic that no pay-outs will be made.
"We are fully aware of that and that is not the case. Unfortunately people are concentrating on these pay-outs and we don't know where the rumours come from. We very clear that this update of the database would enable the Department of Military Veterans to reach and provide whatever service is needed by those who qualify for those services," he said.
"There are various categories of needs for military veterans and they will be treated according to their individual needs. It's not a blanket thing that everyone will get money" Dlamini added.
Dlamini said the process of updating their database started last November and this will make it easier for them to reach and provide services to those who need them.
He also said that the bona-fides of these military veterans must be verified.
"Furthermore, dependents of these veterans that are living or who have passed can also come forward with the new updated information."
Dlamini, says people need to bring their identity documents, marriage certificates, title deeds, death certificates, letters of employment etc.
"We will also need ID's of veterans themselves, like military cards or something of that nature," he added.
He says military veterans in the Eastern Cape can only register their details with the Department at the base in Mthatha and Port Elizabeth.
