Police in Balfour in Mpumalanga are investigating a case of murder after the body of a decomposed female was discovered in the ceiling of a house.
Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala says a complaint was received about a bad odour coming from the house and police responded.
He says a woman who recently moved into the house to be with the father of her child told police that the place had been stinking for over a month and when she asked her boyfriend he informed her that there was a rat problem.
The woman said she last saw her boyfriend on the 1st of October as he went to town to pay some accounts but never returned.
Police now want to talk to the homeowner Mr Thabo Silas Tsotetsi who is a person of interest.
The victim found in the ceiling was so decomposed that it was difficult to determine her gender, however, she was identified as a woman by her shoes and red nail polish.
The deceased must still be formally identified.
