The death toll from Tuesday morning’s horror accident on the N1 near Montagu in the Western Cape has risen to nine.
This after three people died in hospital.
Two trucks collided head-on between Touws River and the Hex River Pass shortly before 8 am on Tuesday.
ER24 paramedics, along with the Life Healthcare and Western Cape Metro, arrived on the scene shortly after 8 am to find the two trucks in the middle of the road.
Several people were found lying scattered around the vehicle.
Medics assessed the patients and found that six people had sustained fatal injuries.
At least eighteen other patients were tended to on the scene.
All the victims were farmworkers who were travelling per truck to work.
Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says 29 workers were being transported on the truck at the time of the accident.
