Two police officers from Chatsworth in Durban reunited with a mother and her baby whom they assisted whilst giving birth.
The officers were patrolling the Higginson Highway on Monday when they noticed a woman on the side of the road who was in labour.
They stopped to help the child but the mom was already in the process of giving birth.
The officers rushed to hospital to get medical staff to accompany them to the scene,
When paramedics arrived on the scene the baby was already born and had no pulse.
The mom and her baby boy were taken to hospital where doctors tried to resuscitate him, but their efforts failed.
It is alleged that the officers and medical staff were so distraught that they all started praying by his bedside.
Police said moments later the baby suddenly started to cry, overwhelming everyone in the room.
The distraught mother was overwhelmed and nurses named the baby "ePhoyisa" which in Zulu means police.
On Thursday the mom and her healthy baby boy were invited to the police station where she was given toys, clothing and other baby items, which staff collected for her.
The grateful mom said "ePhoyisa" was only alive because of the police.
