DCS to appeal Supreme Court ruling on Zuma's medical parole

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS), which ordered the release of former president Jacob Zuma on medical parole, says it will challenge a court decision to send him back to jail.

According to a DCS statement, they carefully studied the judgment and are convinced that another court may come to a different conclusion, stating its intention to have the Supreme Court of Appeal's (SCA) decision overturned.

Eighty-year-old Zuma was convicted in June last year for refusing to testify before the Zondo Commission into State Capture.

He spent just a few months in prison before being released on medical parole.

The SCA ruled on Monday that Zuma's release was unlawful and that he should return to the Estcourt Correctional Center to serve the rest of his jail time.

Meanwhile, the Jacob Zuma Foundation issued a statement calling the SCA ruling cruel and degrading.
