DA to lay charges against members of SA World Cup Bid Committee

The DA says it will be laying charges of fraud and corruption against two members of the South African World Cup Bid Committee and the Local Organising Committee.

DA MP and spokesperson on Sport, Solly Malatsi, says this has to do with the alleged payment of a $10 million dollar bribe, as he put it, to Concaf for its diaspora legacy programme.

Malatsi will be joined by DA MP and spokesperson on Justice, Advocate Glynnis Breytenbach, in laying the charges at the Cape Town police station on Monday.

He says while the 2010 World Cup will remain one of South Africa's shining achievements, it is vitally important to hold those guilty of corruption to account.

The DA has not yet named the two individuals against whom the charges will be laid.

In earlier media reports, the former head of the Local Organising Committee, Danny Jordaan, denied that the $10 million dollars was a bribe.

The other person named in connection with the money was then Safa president Molefi Oliphant.
