The Democratic Alliance is set to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma.
The party has welcomed Wednesday's findings by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela that Zuma and his family unduly benefited from the upgrades to his Nkandla homestead in KZN.
DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko said she'll submit a formal request to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Max Sisulu, to recall the National Assembly as a matter of urgency to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Zuma in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution.
Cope President Musuoa Lekota says its clear from Madonsela's report that Zuma failed in his obligation to use the resources of State sparingly.
Meanwhile, the ANC in the Eastern Cape says "we welcome the fact that the Public Protector found no wrong doing by the President or the presidency as recklessly alleged by the opposition parties."
ANC spokesperson, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, said in a statement that "iIf anything, the report by the Public Protector reveals weak systems and controls in the Public Works and other institutions of government regarding this matter."
"This matter must be addressed with urgency in order for government to prevent irregularities and wastage expenditure.
The Public Protector’s office remains one of the pillars of our democratic institutions and the fact that this office also investigated this matter independently, proves that we have proper systems of accountability in this country under the ANC," Qoboshiyane said.
