The Democratic Alliance maintains that Renaldo Gouws is still suspended from all party activities pending the outcome of his disciplinary hearing with the Federal Legal Commission.
Gouws made headlines after videos of him using the K and the N words made the rounds on social media, shortly after he was sworn in as a member of Parliament for the 7th administration.
In response to reports that Gouws is still active in the party, Newton says: "Gouws participated in an induction session for new members of Parliament to work effectively in the National Assembly or National Council of Provinces. This is a provision of the state, not the party, to be able to do its work. "
Newton assured the nation that the Federal Legal Commission process regarding complaints against Gouws has begun and is ongoing.
Algoa FM previously reported that the South African Human Rights Commission says it is taking the former Gqeberha ward councillor to the Equality Court for his alleged hate speech and racist utterances.
In his defence, Gouws said he made those videos when former President Jacob Zuma and then Youth Leader and now Commander in Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters Julius Malema were singing songs about killing people based on their race.
