Customs officials have seized a substance linked to the manufacture of Mandrax tablets at OR Tambo International Airport valued at a staggering 90 million rand.
The SA Revenue Service says more than three tons of the chemical were confiscated over the past two days.
Spokesperson, Sicelo Mkosi, says no arrests were made but police are now investigating.
He says on the 14th of December officials also discovered more than 240 000 tablets used as a sexual enhancement drug with a street value of over R24 million rand.
The tablets were handed over to Port's Health for further investigation and testing.
Sicelo added that a foreign national was arrested recently in Durban for offering a R200-000 bribe to customs officials to release a truck laden with alcohol worth more than a million rand.
At the time of the arrest, the suspect was in possession of a false invoice, alleging that the alcohol had been supplied by a Gauteng-based known liquor chain store.
Upon further enquiry, the suspect failed to provide a reasonable explanation or evidence of where the load of alcohol had been obtained.
As a result, the officers issued the suspect with a Letter of Intent to seize both the truck and the load.
The Customs officer at Durban who refused the bribe was commended for his honesty and integrity.
