Free State police had to take action after a crowd stoned police attending to an accident scene where a diesel truck had overturned.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said the driver lost control of his vehicle in Maokeng at Kroonstad.
She said community members had started to help themselves to the diesel, and when police tried to disperse them, they stoned the officers who called in the Public Order Police Unit.
Rani says the 28-year-old truck driver sustained minor injuries.
