The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is now standing at 571 with 178 officials and 393 inmates.
The numbers are also showing an upturn in East London.
DCS says their oversight visits indicate that the prisons are complying with the standard protocols and operating procedures on Covid-19, however, the medical advisory panel has advised them to go beyond the standard procedures.
Most of the 571 positive cases are in the Eastern Cape where 414 people are infected.
These include 359 inmates, 55 officials with two deaths recorded earlier this month.
Recoveries are currently standing at 99 of which 65 were in the Eastern Cape.
DCS will continue to separate newly admitted inmates from other inmates for at least 14 days.
