The Department of Health says it is encouraged by the rising number of recoveries from Covid-19 infections in the country, which now stands at 6,083
It made the comment after the total number of confirmed cases increased to 13 524 on Friday.
Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkize said yesterday that 785 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, with nine new deaths, taking the toll to 247.
The Western Cape still has the highest number of coronavirus cases with 7 798, while the Eastern Cape showed a rapid increase to 1 662 cases - overtaking KwaZulu-Natal - to become the province with the third-highest number of infections.
With 18,537 tests done in the past 24-hour cycle, the total number of tests has increased to 421,555.
South Africa still has the highest confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the African continent, followed by Egypt with 11,228.
