Counterfeit spice factory uncovered in Gauteng

Gauteng police have uncovered a counterfeit spice factory in Meyerton, as part of an operation in the Sedibeng District during which more than 600 suspects were arrested for various other crimes.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela says on arrival at the plot on Thursday, police took in 10 foreign nationals who were immediately handed over to Immigration Officers from the Department of Home Affairs, for verification of their status in the country.

Eight were from Mozambique while two were Chinese nationals.

The operation continued on Friday when counterfeit spices worth millions of Rands were confiscated, as well as equipment and machinery suspected of being utilised for processing and packaging.

Those arrested are expected to appear in court soon.
