The Council for Medical Schemes has expressed concern that some entities in the industry employ false advertising strategies, to deliberately mislead the public.
It says in a statement that it is also concerned over the exceptionally high fees which some medical schemes pay to their administrators.
The council is the regulator of the medical schemes industry, responsible for enforcing compliance with the Medical Schemes Act.
It says a medical scheme is essentially a trust fund, and a non-profit organisation which belongs to its members.
The council did not name any of the medical aid schemes over which it expressed concern.
