Cosatu dismayed at job losses

Trade union federation Cosatu says its dismayed that 68 000 jobs disappeared from the South African economy in the fourth quarter of last year.

Cosatu was reacting to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey which revealed that the country's unemployment rate stood at 24.9%.

The trade union federation says these disappointing figures make it even more urgent for Government, together with labour and business, to put policies into action to restructure the economy and create decent employment.

Stats SA's Kafilo Masiteng says more women than men are not economically active and are not in the schooling system.

She said their chances of getting employment is getting slimmer.
