Trade union federation Cosatu says the country's law enforcement agencies must prioritise the area surrounding Lonmin's Marikana mine in Rustenburg in North West province.
This, as tensions mount in the wake of the murder of several people due to testify at the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the last year's Markikana shooting at the mine.
Workers also downed tools on Tuesday and were reportedly massing on the same koppie where 34 people were shot dead by police.
Cosatu's Gauteng secretary Dumisani Dakile told reporters in Johannesburg on Tuesday that they are concerned about security in the area and called on the State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele to ensure the situation was under control.
