The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it has arrested eight policemen in connection with the death of taxi driver, Mido Macia.
He died in police custody at the Daveyton Police Station on Tuesday after being cuffed and dragged behind a police vehicle.
The incident, caught on cellphone camera, sparked outrage locally and abroad.
IPID spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, says the policemen arrested include two warrant officers and six constables at the Benoni Police Station.
"The arrest follows an IPID investigation which started in the early hours of 27 February 2013. The IPID is committed to ensuring that the suspects are held accountable and brought before the courts," Dlamini said.
He says they will remain in custody until their court appearance on Monday.
On Friday police commissioner, Rhia Phiyega, announced their suspension including that of the Daveyton station commissioner.
