A police officer, based at the Mahikeng Organised Crime unit, has shot his girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself.
North West police spokesperson, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane says Warrant Officer Sachs Mothowagae was found alive inside a car at his sister's house in Welbedacht township near Zeerust
on Monday.
He says it appears the police officer had wounded himself through his mouth, and was taken to hospital where he later died.
Ngubane says earlier in the day, Mothowagae had reportedly gone to his 42-year-old girlfriend's house where he and the girlfriend were last seen walking outside the house.
Later, a passer-by saw the girlfriend lying in a pool of blood outside her home.
