A SAPS Captain arrested for allegedly stealing diesel from a state vehicle will remain behind bars until his bail application next week.
SAPS said 50-year-old Juan Oosthuizen was remanded in custody after appearing in court in Brits on Thursday.
“He is expected to reappear at the same court on Wednesday for a formal bail application,” said spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
“The Captain, attached to the Brits Visible Policing, was allegedly caught on Saturday afternoon, 04 February, draining diesel out of the tank of a parked state vehicle,” he said.
He was arrested by members of the North West Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit.
Mokgwabone said the arrest of the officer was welcomed by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena.
