A contractor who was conducting renovations at a residential property in Durban on Monday has died after an iron beam collapsed with a brick facia.
The Durban K9 search and Rescue unit and medical teams were dispatched to the property in the La Lucia area where five contractors were trapped underneath the rubble.
Responders were able to extricate four men and treat them for moderate to serious injuries.
Two K9 dogs, Ghost and Odi conducted a search amongst the rubble and debris and successfully indicated the location of a fifth victim who was declared dead on the scene.
Police have opened up an inquest docket.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
