More than 30 000 members of the National Union of Mineworkers downed tools in the coal mining sector on Sunday night.
The NUM says the CCMA issued a certificate of non-resolution to the dispute last week.
Anglo Coal and Glencore are offering the lowest paid workers an increment of 8.5% and seven percent for artisans, miners, and officials.
Other coal mines on the reef are offering increases of between 5 and 7.5% which have been rejected by the Union.
It wants to see the lowest paid workers receiving a 13% increase.
Eskom says the strike in the coal mining sector should not affect the country's power supply.
Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says they have coal reserves and power supply will only be affected if the strike continues for more than a month.
