An EFF Member of Parliament (MP) has been arrested for his alleged involvement in vandalising a Clicks outlet earlier this week.
A spokesperson for the Ministery of Police Lirandzu Themba says the MP was arrested with nine other people.
She says the MP, however, is facing additional charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
The Police Ministry denounced the acts of vandalism and malicious damage to property at Clicks outlets across the country.
Themba says, Police Minister Bheki Cele not only condemned the racist advert from Clicks but also cautioned against the damaging of property as an act of protest against the advert.
Themba says the Minister is also aware of the incident at the Walmer Park Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth where a 52-year-old woman is facing a charge of pointing a firearm.
Clicks announced on Tuesday that their stores nationwide will be closed on Wednesday.
Police remain on high alert.
The suspects will appear in court soon and only then may the MP be identified.
