The controversial leader of the Rivers of Living Waters Ministries Church who is currently on trial for rape, has been arrested yet again on similar charges.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Lumka Mahanjana says 57-year-old Archbishop Stephen Bafana Zondo appeared in the Sebokeng Regional Court on Friday on five new charges of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
She says two victims came forward claiming that they were raped inside the church in Evarton in the Vaal Triangle.
The alleged rapes happened between 2013 and 2018.
Mahanjana says Zondo is currently on trial in the Pretoria High Court on multiple counts of rape, Contravention of the Sexual Offences Act as well as defeating the ends of Justice.
She says the High Court trial will resume on the 19th of February 2024, while he will be back in the Regional Court in Sebokeng for the latest charges on the 12th of March.
The church was started by Zondo in 1988 and has since grown to over 30 000 members.
