The Gauteng Department of Education has issued a notice of closure to the Crowthorne Christian Academy in Midrand, adding that the school was not an institution that could effectively educate children.
This follows an alleged racial incident at the school this week where a 13-year-old learner was instructed to cut her dreadlocks before returning to school.
A heated argument broke out at the school between the parents, the principal and her husband, which was captured on a now-viral video.
In the video, 51-year-old Andries Booysen was seen pushing the learner and her mother out of his office, leading to his arrest on two charges of assault.
The learner's parents argued that their child's hair was natural while the school believed she had extensions.
Booysen appeared in the Midrand Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he was granted bail of R2 000.
A spokesperson for the MEC, Xolani Mkhwemte says they were dumbfounded when they arrived at the school on Thursday to find the gates locked and the building empty.
He says they have made numerous attempts to contact the school's management but refused to open or respond to communication.
The Department of Education urged parents of learners in the school to reach out for assistance as all learners will now be placed in different schools.
The school's vision, published on its Website, reads:
"At the Crowthorne/Sunninghill Christian School Family, we understand the importance of belonging."
Booysens will be back in court on the 2nd of October for further investigation.
