A five-year-old girl from Matwabeng near Senekal in the Free State is currently in hospital following a violent assault, allegedly at the hands of her father.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring says the 34-year-old widower allegedly reprimanded his daughter for arriving home late last Friday.
He says the child was assaulted to the point of losing some of her teeth while glue was also smeared all over her face.
The father was arrested shortly after the incident when neighbours alerted police.
The man, who has been the main caretaker of the child since the passing of his wife, was due to appear in the Senekal Magistrates Court on Monday.
WO Mophiring says the victim is still in hospital and will be taken to a place of safety once discharged.
