An innocent 4-year-old child was killed and two adults injured following a high-speed chase in Hillbrow that resulted in an accident on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele says the 32-year-old suspect was spotted by police in Hillbrow and a chase ensued.
He says during the chase the suspect, who was driving in a Volvo, collided with a combi and ran over three people in the process.
The suspect then tried to flee on foot but was arrested soon after.
Police found four unlicensed firearms in his vehicle including an AK-47.
Captain Makhubela says all the guns will be taken for ballistic testing to see if it was used in other crimes.
Police also established that the suspect's vehicle was hijacked in Ekhuruleni a few days ago.
The man is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court soon on an array of charges.
