Child found alone at beach as father goes missing at sea

A seven-year-old Western Cape girl was found at her father's car after he went swimming at Monwabisi beach in Cape Town and did not return.

An extensive search was launched for the missing man on Sunday afternoon.

Craig Lambinon of the National Sea Rescue Institue says their Strandfontein duty crew and other roleplayers responded to the scene on the False Bay coast.

He says despite an extensive search no sign of the adult male was found. Divers will continue their search on Monday.

The child is currently in the care of the South African Police.
