The Free State Education Department has called for calm following violent scenes sparked by the death of a grade 9 learner from Tlotlisong Secondary in Ficksburg.
It is alleged the pupil took their life after being bullied by a teacher.
On Thursday learners joined fellow pupils from other schools and overturned a police vehicle, damaged teachers’ cars, destroyed school property, and disrupted teaching and learning in Ficksburg.
Departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba says they will meet with relevant stakeholders on Monday, 6 February 2023 to find a lasting solution and ensure teaching and learning resumes.
He further urged community members and learners to allow investigations to take their course and allow schooling to proceed without any delays.
Ndaba says psychosocial support will be provided for learners who require it.
