The body that was found burnt beyond recognition inside Thabo Bester's cell at the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein has finally been identified.
The body, identified as Katlego Mpholo, used as a decoy for the so-called Facebook rapist and murderer to escape on 3 May last year, was found with blunt force trauma.
Mpholo's body was brought inside the maximum security prison with a private vehicle.
National police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says the body was identified following a direct match with the biological mother of the deceased.
She says the family has been notified by the investigating officer.
"The South African Police Service is pleased to bring closure to the family. No further comment will be provided", Mathe said.
