An elderly British national who was kidnapped in Robertson on Friday was traced by police to an unoccupied shack in Zwelethemba in Worcester.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said the woman was immediately taken to a medical facility for observation.
He said according to reports received by police, the woman was kidnapped on La Chasseur Road in Robertson shortly after noon on Friday.
Van Wyk said members of a multi-disciplinary, anti-kidnapping task team traced and rescued the 84-year-old kidnapping victim.
Police are investigating cases of hijacking and kidnapping, and no arrests have yet been made.
Meanwhile, Captain Van Wyk said two foreign nationals were arrested in an unrelated matter for kidnapping and extortion.
This was after they allegedly kidnapped a 20-year-old woman who was walking from a restaurant on Plein Street in Stellenbosch to her residence a short distance away.
Van Wyk said two occupants in a car stopped and abducted the woman before demanding a ransom from her family.
“The family immediately paid the money where after the victim was released on Friday. She was immediately taken for medical examination.
“A case of kidnapping and extortion was opened for investigation,” Van Wyk said.
He said information was followed up and the vehicle used was traced to the George area where the two men, aged 24 and 25 were arrested.
An undisclosed amount of cash was found in the car including the phone used.
Van Wyk said the two suspects were charged and are due to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court on Monday.
