The long-awaited DNA results in the murder case of a young farm manager in Paul Roux near Senekal in the Free State is not a match to the blood found on the clothes of the suspects.
The 21-year-old Brendin Horner's body was found in October last year, tied up to a pole with a rope around his neck.
Horner was strangled to death and stabbed several times.
The investigating officer in the murder case relied on outstanding DNA from bloodstained clothes and a knife that were found inside a freezer located at a shack belonging to the accused number one.
This means that the State's case, at this point, hinges on the testimony of eyewitnesses who allegedly overheard the suspects confess to the murder in a tavern.
The defence for both accused 32-year-old Sekwetja Mahlamba and 44-year-old Sekola Matlaletsa will now bring a bail application based on new evidence.
They both pleaded not guilty and maintained that the blood found on their clothes were from an animal that they had slaughtered.
The bail application will be brought before a new Magistrate on Tuesday.
