Bok lock Eben Etzebeth meets Human Rights Commission

SA Rugby has confirmed that Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth met with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon.

This followed allegations that the lock forward was part of a group who assaulted a homeless man in Langebaan recently and also pointed a firearm at him.

SARU said the purpose of Thursday's meeting was to advise Etzebeth of the role of the SAHRC in dealing with the complaint received, as well as the subsequent media reports relating to it.

A statement said both parties expressed their satisfaction with the envisaged process going forward and concluded by describing the meeting as constructive.

Etzebeth strongly refuted the claims, while SA Rugby stated on Monday that the lock would remain with the Springboks unless the police require reconsideration.

The Springboks fly out on Friday to the World Cup in Japan.
