A man dubbed a Facebook con artist by police has escaped from lawful custody in Lyttleton in Thswane.
Kingsley Leeto Chele has been on the run since Wednesday last week and was due to make his second court appearance on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo says Chele allegedly misrepresented himself as a doctor or pharmacist and would then scam women out of their hard-earned money.
He says Chele, who calls himself Dr Kingsley Chele or Dr KJ Ncube on social media, would allegedly contact health professionals on Facebook.
Masondo says he would pretend to seek investors for projects that did not exist.
He says Chele was arrested earlier this month and is facing two fraud cases, registered in Sunnyside and Klipgat in June this year.
Chele's bail was denied in the Pretoria Magistrates Court.
The case was remanded to Tuesday.
Masondo says the Investigating Officer of the case roped in the asset forfeiture unit to assist in attaching Chele's property that is believed to have been accumulated as proceeds of crime.
He says last week, officers were busy at Chele's home to catalogue his household items when he managed to escape and is still on the run.
This follows just a week after another young man was exposed on TikTok for misrepresenting himself as a doctor on Facebook.
The Gauteng Health Department has laid criminal charges against the bog us TikTok doctor Matthew Lani.
This comes after Lani, whose legal name is Matthew Zingelwa piqued social media interest by claiming that he had graduated from Wits University as the youngest doctor in the country.
