The University of the Western Cape said the bodies of two students who drowned at Strand over the weekend have been recovered.
In a statement Wednesday, UWC said the body of second year UWC Law student Aluwani Hadzhi was recovered on Macassar beach on Tuesday while the body of first year Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Mechanical Engineering student Mulweli Nevhutalo was found on the same beach on Wednesday.
UWS said the missing students were on a group outing as members of the Students’ Christian Organisation (SCO), Western Cape branch. “SCO members were swimming on the beach when four students went missing under rough sea conditions, strong winds and poor water visibility. The incident was reported to the life guards on the Strand Beach.”
UWC deputy vice chancellor, Professor Pamela Dube, said the University was
deeply saddened by this tragic loss.
