A 26-year-old Francois Myburgh, from Witpoortjie on the West of Johannesburg, on Wednesday said he will embark on his journey to create rhino poaching awareness in June 1 until July 31.
Myburgh, is set to walk 3870.8km, and this will include Magalies Park, Kimberly, Sutherland, Cape Town, Kareedouw, Ficksburg after which his journey will end at Kruger National Park.
“This is my way of putting the focus and attention back on the rhino which is being poached on a daily basis, it’s sad to know that just recently The West African Black Rhino Declared Extinct. If we do not take a stand against the poachers then there will be no rhinos left for our next generations to see – that is a very scary thought,” Myburgh said.
He aimed to donate about R100,000 at the end of the year for rhino conservation and hopes that his walk will contribute to people opening their hearts for the rhinos.
Magalies Park Resort Manager, Muis Lombard said: “We would like to congratulate Francois. This is an awesome initiative which he has started, I would like to link Francois with the Rhino Army Project and together we can save these precious animals”.
Myburgh completed his first and second solo 100km Rhino Walk successfully in 2014 and his third in 2015 when he walked to Brits in the North West province.
