Two young men who chased after a soccer ball before being swept out to sea on Sunday came to a tragic end when two bodies believed to be them were discovered.
A spokepserson for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Craig Lambinon says the 19 and 20-year-old were playing with a local soccer team at Milnerton's Lagoon Beach when they were both caught in strong rip currents.
He says an extensive search involving rescue divers, a rescue helicopter and a drone joined in the sea and shoreline search but without success.
Lambinon says on Monday morning members of the public reported seeing two male bodies on the beach during the Spring low tide.
"It must be noted that formal identification by families is protocol that has not yet been observed, and we cannot emphasise enough the respect of all care being provided by Police and Forensic Pathology to the families and friends in this sad tragedy that they are facing" he said.
The bodies were recovered by Police officers and Police divers and taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
