A young Kwazulu Natal mother who made headlines by leaving an apology note with her abandoned baby has appeared in court in Verulam.
She handed herself over to police earlier and appeared in court on Thursday on a charge of child abandonment.
The young mom's note sparked debate after she appealed to people not to judge her, saying that she had approached social workers for help on two previous occasions.
The National Prosecuting Authority said the woman was granted bail of R500 and the matter was postponed to 10 November for further investigations.
The baby girl was found on Monday alongside a stream in Dawncrest, north of Durban and according to the security company, Reaction Unit South Africa, there was a bag next to her containing milk, nappies, and a pacifier.
