The family of former Bafana Bafana star, Thabang Lebese, has disclosed that he had died of an HIV-related ailment.
Family spokesperson, Fana Tshabangu, told Sapa that they were shocked to learn of
Lebese's status after his death.
He says Lebese died last month before he could tell his family about his status.
Tshabangu says they are honouring the former football star who told friends that he wanted to disclose his status.
Lebese's family apologised to the Gauteng department of health, and the Helen Joseph hospital staff and management for statements blaming the hospital for his death.
