Former high jump world champion Jacques Freitag was arrested, after he was allegedly found in possession of the drug Cat.
According to weekend media reports, Freitag was stopped by Tshwane police on Friday, after he allegedly ran a red traffic light in Bronkhorstspruit.
The drug was allegedly found in one of his pockets.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sarah Mcira says Freitag will remain in custody.
He is one of only eight athletes to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of the high jump event.
Freitag won the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris, France in 2003.
