Western Cape premier Helen Zille says the army should be called in to help stem the spate of gang violence sweeping the Cape Flats.
Zille said on Sunday that she believes the situation has gone beyond the capacity of the SA Police Service.
She says the spike in gang violence in which at least 23 people, including children, have been killed, constitutes an emergency that requires the intervention of the country's armed forces.
